Estimated to be about $ 20 Billion
annually, trade in wildlife is second only to the illegal trade in arms
and narcotics, and trade in ivory forms a sizeable portion of it.
Operation Hot Pursuit follows conservationist Vivek Menon on the ivory trail, sometimes with hidden cameras for undercover investigations, on raids to nab poachers and for clandestine meetings with traders.
For the past ten years, Vivek Menon, the executive director of the Wildlife Trust of India, has been at the forefront of the fight against organized wildlife crime and poaching in India. Operation Hot Pursuit follows Vivek Menon on track of the illegal ivory trade from India, starting from the killing of elephants, to the sale of tusks, packaging and smuggling through illegal channels across South-East Asia before ending up in Japan.
Operation Hot Pursuit captures the live drama of sting operations as the audience lives and breathes the tension, the excitement and often the disappointments of the investigator.
Operation Hot Pursuit has been produced for the National Geographic Channel.
