After Abhijeet Sawant, this year we have, Sandeep Acharya as the winner of the second series of Indian Idol.
When ‘Pop Idol’, the hugely popular worldwide phenomenon, was brought to India in 2004, it took millions of Indians to unprecedented heights of frenzy and adulation, propelling them to live their dreams. ‘Indian Idol’ experienced viewer engagement as never before, cutting across all boundaries of social status and geographies to witness people from every walk of life turn up in full strength, not only to participate and make their dreams come true but also religiously vote to choose their very own ‘Indian Idol’.
After the resounding success of Indian Idol in the first season, and audience response normally reserved for big budget films and movie stars, SET launched the Series 2 of the show, beginning the hunt for the next Indian Idol.
Indian Idol has created a platform, which is now the goal of everyone aspiring to become a singer. With a respected jury comprising of Director-Choreographer Farah Khan, Music Director Anu Malik and Singing sensation Sonu Nigam, the contestants and the viewers get an insight in the making of the true Idol. The hosts Aman Yatan Verma and Mini Mathur add their sensibilities, soothing frayed nerves, and putting the contestants at ease. Indian Idol has become a rage for music lovers and television viewers across the subcontinent.
Sandeep Acharya has been crowned Indian Idol in the second series beating Karunya in the finale. The boy from Bikaner first noticed for his smile – and his `Udit Narayan style has proved his mettle. He silenced his worst critics with his enthusiastic performance of the Kishore Kumar hit Eena Meena Deeka.
Many of the other top 10 contestants have commenced their singing careers also. Neha Kakkar has rendered a song for a pop album where she sings “Chandani Raatein.” Yashashree Bhave has tied the knot and settled down. Panna Gill is doing stage shows. Eliminated contestant Meenal Jain has done stage shows with Sonu Nigam and also received an offer from Anu Malik. In addition, Antara Mitra, a regular favorite of Anu Malik, has also been presented an offer from many music directors and also is recording her solo album. Antara also gets to sing a duet with the Indian Idol in his album for being the top female contestant. Monali Thakur, has sung for Preity Zinta in the movie Jaaneman (2006), as promised by Anu Malik. There is also an album being made with the top five (which consists of Sandeep, NC Karunya, Antara, Anuj, and Amey.)
